Abstract
871,054. Mine-roof supports. PAURAT, F. W. March 16, 1959 [March 14, 1958; Dec. 5, 1958], No. 8919/59. Class 20(2) A hinged arch frame for supporting a mine-roof has a dismantling assembly 4, hinged at 2A, 2B between two adjacent beams 1A, 1B; an assembly 3, attached to the beam 1A, includes a member 3.1 containing an aperture 3.4, through which a locking bolt 4.5, pivoted to the frame 4 at 4.7 can be entered and retained by the catches 4.6 acting against the right-hand face of the member 3.1. A key 5, inserted above the bolt 4.5 in the aperture 3.4 holds the assembly against accidental release. To release the assembly, the key is removed and the bolt raised. According to the frictional forces acting, the beam 1A will proceed towards the position shown dotted in Fig. 1, or in another arrangement, a hydraulic ram lifts the bolt and forces it out against greater frictional forces. A further arrangement (Figs. 6, 7, not shown) divides a beam, near one end along a plane normal to the plane of the arch and inclined to the general direction of the beam at that point. Release of wedges, &c. allows relative sliding of the beam segments in the plane of division.
