994,903. Telescopic pit props. RHEINSTAHL WANHEIM G.m.b.H. May 10, 1962 [May 12, 1961], No. 18006/62. Heading E1E. In a telescopic pit prop having a friction lock 3, a clamping device such as a wedge 4 is adapted to act on a clamping plate 5 shaped as shown, the arrangement being such that the plate 5 may move the inner prop member 2 about its longitudinal axis into engagement with an abutment 6. The member 2 is provided with two bearing surfaces 2a, 2b for engagement with the members 5, 6 respectively. In a modification, see Figs. 4, 5 and 6 (not shown), two wedges are employed acting on common or separate clamping plates. A friction lining may be provided for the inner prop to rotate therewith.
