Abstract
812,769. Slide bar heads for mine roof supports. MANCHESTER ENGINEERING (SALFORD) CO. Ltd. Oct. 9, 1957 [Aug. 2, 1956], No. 23800/56. Class 20(2) A slidebar head comprises a base G for attachment to a pit prop, on which there are - vertical members E with heads F which can engage the mine roof and catches S for engaging opposite sides of a roof bar U, and a wedge L. The annular base G is fitted over a pit prop and a roof bar U lowered into engagement with the catches S pivoted at T. The prop is then extended so that the heads F of the reinforced box section verticals E engage the roof. The 13 degree wedge L, which is held on to a 13 degree ramp H between the verticals by guide ways J in plates K, is then moved to force the bar U into engagement with the roof. The wedge may have end blocks P to prevent its escape from the guide ways J.
