Abstract

755,042. Pit props. JONES, W. D. (Schwarz Komm.-Ges., H.). April 29, 1954, No. 12395/54. Class 20(2). A pit prop comprises a collar surrounding the inner prop member and formed of sections 13, 14 engaging one another by wedge surfaces 17, 18 so that when the section 13 is driven upwardly by a wedge 19 the collar grips the member 12 which on further movement of the wedge 19 is raised against the mine roof. The sections 13, 14 are formed with a hook at one end and the other end is flat, the wedge surfaces 17, 18 being formed on the engaging surfaces of these parts. In a modification one section is formed with two hooks embracing flat ends on the other part. The wedge 19 engages between a prop clamp 20 on the lower prop member and an inclined surface on the section 13. The collar is shown modified for a square cross section inner prop.
