Abstract

626,025. Boxes. RIGID CONTAINERS Ltd., and BURDITT, H. July 3, 1947, Nos. 17552/47 and 6988/48. [Class 18] A box formed from a scored blank has stiffening portions extending from two opposite sides of the box bottom, which fold over and embrace the adjacent walls of the box and which have extensions forming partitions. Two opposite box sides 3 extend from the bottom 1 and carry extensions 5 forming end walls. The portions 5 are enclosed within parts 8, 9 of the stiffening portions, the extensions 23 of which extend across the corners of the box and are engaged by inserted partition members 24. Ventilation and hand-holes may be provided in the parts 24, 3 respectively. In an alternative form, Fig. 1 (not shown), the extensions 23 extend from opposite ends of the box to meet in the centre in a scarf joint, transverse inserted partitions locking the joint and dividing the box into rectangular cells. An internal rim, formed by folding over an extension of a pair of opposite sides of the box, engages recessed portions in the inserted partitions to prevent unintentional withdrawal. The handholes are formed in the members 5, 8 and 9. The first Provisional Specification describes recessed upper edges in the inserted partition members for ventilation purposes.
