Abstract

1,082,829. Hexagonal crash-bottom cartons. ALF COOKE Ltd. April 1, 1966 [April 1, 1965], No. 13796/65. Heading B8P. A " crash-bottom" hexagonal carton has third and sixth base flaps 13, 14 adhered to second and fifth base flaps 16, 15 respectively. The main base panel flap 17 has a central fold line 17A parallel to the base line of the fourth wall panel 4. The base is formed by flaps (13, 14, 15, 16) engaging slots 17B and side tongues 17C in the main base flap 17. As shown the sixth base flap 14 is attached to the fifth base flap 15 by a hinged tab 14A, and with a similar arrangement between the third and second base flaps 13, 16 enables the box to be flattened so that panel 1 is superposed on panel 4 with the main base flap 17 folded and sandwiched between them. A lid 11 has flaps 12 adapted to lie within the erected carton between the inward folded flaps 8, 9 and 10 when the lid is closed. Further embodiments allow for one pair of opposite sides of the hexagon to be longer than the others, and for one pair of opposite angles on a line of symmetry to be changed to 90 degrees.
