625,783. Stuffing-boxes. BERTRAMS, Ltd., and GRANT, J. April 14, 1947, No. 9825. [Class 122(v)] In a gland packing assembly for a shaft a which has to be permitted considerable movement of its axis of rotation, and comprising a stuffing-box d mounted on. the shaft, and a gland packing g, h in the stuffing-box arranged for sealing against the rotating surface of the shaft including a facial sealing surface c<1> on the shaft means are provided restraining rotation of the stuffing-box while permitting movement in a plane normal to the axis of the shaft and having a complementary seal between the stuffing box and a surface of the surrounding structure in a plane normal to the axis of the shaft. The stuffing-box is formed with a flange d<2> which is received in a housing formed by the surrounding stationary members k, m, the member m housing the complementary seal member n. The means restraining the stuffing-box from rotation comprises a radial groove o in the flange of the stuffing-box and a stud p in the housing engaging in said groove.
