Abstract

579,775. Stuffing-boxes. ARMSTRONG SIDDELEY MOTORS, Ltd., and CLARK, T. Oct. 23, 1943, No. 17484. [Classes 110 (iii) and 122 (v)] A disc 17, with a flexible portion 18 and a flange 19 secured on a shaft 13, carries a turbine wheel 12 which is secured to it by screws 16 all as described in Specification 579,426 and co-operates with a stationary flange 25 provided with labyrinth packings 26. The cylindrical extensions 27 of the flange 25 has radial fingers 28 which are a sliding fit in a supporting part 31 secured to the outer member 33 of the main bearing. This outer member 33 is universally mounted in a stationary part 14 by means of spherically surfaced splines on the member 33 and straight splines on the part 14. The parts 25, 27 are sealed to the casing by a bellows device 39 one end of which is clamped between plates 41 which also slidingly embrace a flange 43 on the inner wall of the turbine inlet channel 21.
