Abstract

918,594. Stuffing-box substitutes. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 13, 1962 [Feb. 24, 1961], No. 6894/61. Class 122 (5). Stationary labyrinth rings 3 are mounted around a turbine shaft 2 in an annular housing 4 which is supported on an exterior easing 1 by means of spigots 8 extending axially from each end of the casing and engaging annular grooves 10 provided in radial flanges 9 on the ends of the housing. The rings 3 are segmental and are retained in T-section slots in the housing backed by leaf-springs 6 secured against rotation by screws 7. The housing consists of half-rings which are held against axial movement or rotation by screws 12 engaging in slots in the casing. Locating screws provided on each side of the radial joints between the half-housings are screwed tight against the casing to bring the flanges hard on the spigot. Packing shims 11 are inserted between the spigots and the bottom of the grooves 10 to effect axial adjustment of the housing with respect to the shaft.
