Abstract

The flexible support is used with bearings of centrifugal pumps where the bearing has the additional function of reducing the flow to the stuffing box. The bearing is in the form of a sleeve (1) with a flange (10) which abuts against the flange of the housing (2). The bearing sleeve (1) is bonded to an elastomeric support (3) which allows the sleeve to centre itself with respect to the shaft (6) without imposing any load on it. In this way the radial clearance between shaft and bearing is kept to the absolute minimum. Elastomeric O-rings or metallic bellows may be used as alternative methods of flexible support.
