In a labyrinth packing for a turbine shaft 5 and comprising a ring divided into segments 1 radially displaceable in an annular cavity 3 in the seal housing 2 between two seatings 21 and 22 and urged radially inwards by springs 4, the cavity 3 is connected by a radial bore 12 in each segment to a labyrinth chamber 6 in the seal gap which chamber is at a pressure PK differing from the mean pressure in the gap.
