Abstract

1335939 Turbines KRAFTWERK UNION AG 6 March 1972 10419/72 Heading F1T An arrangement for supporting and centering an internal housing within a surrounding external housing comprises, when applied to a seal housing 6 contained within the high pressure end of a steam turbine housing 4, four equally spaced projections k extending radially in a common transverse plane from seal housing 6 to engage axial grooves n in housing 4, means being provided to retain the projections k in position. Housing 6 is formed in two halves 6a, 6b secured together by screws 6d and is inserted into turbine housing 4, together with rotor 1, from left to right of Fig. 1 until projections k enter grooves n and annular faces r 1 , r 2 on the respective housings abut via shim rings r 3 , r 4 to prevent further leftwards movement. Each groove n is formed by a narrower and a wider portion which define shoulders t 1 against which a wedge a abuts to prevent leftwards movement of projection k, the wedge a having been inserted axially from the right into annular groove 23 and then moved circumferentially and radially into position. Further wedges l are inserted on both sides of projection k, each having a step l 3 which engages under wedge a to retain the latter radially. The wedges l are retained axially either by being screwed to projection k or by abutment against end cover 8. Thus seal housing 6 is retained in position with freedom for axial and radial expansion relative to its supporting points. A similar support arrangement is provided for seal housing 5 at the low pressure end of the turbine and may also be used for turbine inner housings and stator blade carriers.
