Abstract

621,357. Spanners. ABBEY, A. (Erikson, E. E.). Feb. 21, 1947, No. 5150. [Class 61(iii)] [Also in Group XXII] A magazine screw-nut driver comprises a tubular body 10, a driving head 12, 13 detachably secured to the front of the body by a bayonet-joint, a hexagonal &c. end 11 on the body for connection to an air driver or other driving mechanism for driving the tubular body and an elongated hexagonal &c. magazine 14 which may be of cheap material such as stiff paper, plastics &c. loaded with nuts and adapted to be assembled in the body after the head has been removed. The nuts are urged forwardly by a piston 18 and spring 17 bearing on a rear plug pinned to a sleeve 24 which may be moved from a rear pcsition when the magazine is full to an intermediate position and fixed there by a bayonet-joint when the magazine is partly emptied. The head 12 has a screw attachable sleeve 13 formed cone-shaped to engage the screwed studs to receive the nuts and is equipped with pivoted doublepronged dogs 19 coacting with a circular spring 22 to retain the nuts and permit their release one by one when the continuously driven device is presented to the screwed studs.
