Abstract

846,445. Explosively actuated tools for driving nails. MINE SAFETY APPLIANCES CO. March 19, 1958 [April 9, 1957], No. 35945/59. Divided out of 846,447. Class 119. An explosively actuated driving tool has a combustion chamber formed between the rear of its barrel 50 and a plunger 69 with a front portion 68 for engaging and driving a fastener 66 and with an adjuster 73 engaging its rearward by facing surface to move the plunger so as to control the size of the combustion chamber. The adjuster is operated by turning a nut 77 mounted on the barrel 50. The chuck 64 into which the fastener 66 is held moves forward at the same time as the plunger 69 when the latter is adjusted due to its projecting front end 60. A description of the other features of the tool is given in Specification 846,447 on which this Specification is divided and which has the same subject-matter. Specification 846,446 also is referred to.
