1315290 Plunger for an explosively operated fastener driving tool ETEM ETAB DE TECHNIQUES MODERNES 6 May 1970 9 May 1969] 53984/72 Divided out of 1314425 Heading B4C A fastener driving plunger, in an explosively actuated fastener driving tool, comprises a rod portion 17 provided with opposed flats 17d, and a guide portion M provided with a throat 17g between flange 201 and the guide portion. A further rod portion 15 extends rearwardly from the guide portion. In use the plunger is driven to the illustrated position upon detonation of a cartridge, at which position it is halted by engagement of the guide portion with a frusto-conical surface 10a of the barrel. If the plunger is subjected to undue stresses during an impact stroke it will fracture at the throat 17g and the rod portion 17 will be retained in the barrel by engagement of flange 201 with surface 10b.
