Abstract

1,267,775. Fastener driving tools. J. M. REICH. 14 April, 1970 [19 April, 1969], No. 17665/70. Heading B4C. A pneumatically actuable fastener driving tool comprises a reciprocable piston and a buffer against which the piston impinges at the end of a drive stroke, one of the piston and buffer having a substantially frusto-conical projection that extends into and is deformed by a substantially frusto-conical recess of the other when the piston impinges the buffer. Facing annular surfaces, which engage when the projection extends fully into the recess, are also provided on the piston and the buffer. As illustrated the buffer 15 includes the projection 17, and the piston 6 is provided with the recess 10. The piston is retained in its starting position by engagement of an extension 7 with a resilient element 9. The lower surface of the buffer (which is preferably of polyurethane) is tapered at 21 and has a counterbore 22 in which a sealing ring 23 is located. The buffer has an annular portion 19 which extends beneath a shoulder (not shown) provided by the cylinder 5.
