Abstract

308,955. Bateman, M. L. Dec. 30, 1927. Screwdrivers. - A screwdriver of the kind provided with an attachment for holding the screw in engagement with the blade has a cylindrical nipple or sleeve formed at its forward end with a seating for receiving the head of the screw which is gripped between the seating and the edge of the tool blade by the action of a compression spring housed within the sleeve. The sleeve d is guided on the tool stem a by the engagement of a rib e on the sleeve with a groove in a collar c sweated to the stem and is provided at its forward end with a cap f formed with a conical seating l for the head of the screw and with an open-ended slot g to admit the head of the screw sideways. The compression spring j is retained in position by a cap h screwed on the end of the sleeve d. The outer end of the casing may be shod with rubber or other material to avoid damage to surfaces against which the tool is applied.
