Abstract

648,878. Screwdrivers. MOORE & WRIGHT (SHEFFIELD), Ltd. Sept. 6, 1948, No. 23451. [Class 61(iii)] In a ratchet type archimedian screwdriver the abutment means for limiting the spring-impelled return movement of the nut-and-ratchet assembly 12 upon the spindle 4 comprises a member radially retractable into the spindle by a tool inserted from the rear through the tubular stem 13, so as to permit removal of the spindle from the nut-and-ratchet assembly. The retractable member may comprise a key 2, Fig. 1, urged outwardly by a spring 5 and retractable by means of a tubular member which is passed over the end of the spindle 4, or may comprise a ball 30, Fig. 3, urged outwardly by a releasable screw 31.
