Abstract

620,096. Screwdrivers. M. L. AVIATION CO., Ltd., and LOBELLE, M. J. O. Jan. 4, 1947, No. 338. [Class 61(iii)] A screw-driver for use with screws having a socket in addition to usual slot or other formation to be engaged by the blade or other driving part is provided with an expandable spigot to engage in the socket and to retain the screw. The blade d is engaged in the slot in the screw and the two portions e of the spigot inserted in the socket in the screw and forced apart by a tapering expander member g housed in the hollow shank c of the screwdriver and having a cup shaped head k which slides within the stem b and is pressed outwards by a helical spring m in the handle a. A trigger o pivoted at p and having a projection p bearing on the head k, allows the member g to be retracted. In place of the blade, the screwdriver may have a hexagonal or other shaped driving tool for engagement in a correspondingly shaped recess in the screw.
