Abstract

962,546. Wrenches; screwdrivers. A. D. WOOD & CO. Ltd. Nov. 21, 1960 [Nov. 20, 1959], No. 39359/59. Heading B4W. In a magnetic wrench or screwdriver the magnet is secured in or on the tool and is adapted to engage a face of a nut, screw &c., the magnet being spring urged towards the face of the nut, screw &c. upon engagement therewith. A wrench, Fig. 2, comprises a socket adapted to be driven by a bit which engages in the axial recess 13. A bar magnet 16 extends across the socket and is supported in diametrically opposed apertures 17 in the wall thereof. The magnet is axially adjustable by a screwthreaded sleeve 20 which is in engagement with exterior threads 19 on the socket. The magnet 16 is urged against the sleeve 20 by a spring 21. In a modification, Fig. 4, a magnet 27 of annular form is slidably mbunted on the shank 26 of a screwdriver. The spring 29 is secured at one end to the magnet 27 and at the other end to the handle of the screwdriver.
