Abstract

619,661. Electromagnetic switches. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Dec. 19, 1946, No. 37410. Convention date, Dec. 8, 1944. [Class 38 (v)] In an electromagnetic time-delay switch, a self-interrupting magnet 1 rotates a shaft 14 step-by-step by a ratchet-and-pawl mechanism 28, 29 and a second electromagnet 24 attracts an armature 10 so as to bring a point 12 into engagement with a threaded drum 32 on the shaft 14 so that the armature 10 is moved perpendicular to the plane of the paper till the point 12 escapes from the drum and an arm 17 moves to operate contacts 20, 21, 22, 23. Fig. 4 shows one form of threaded drum. The circuit arrangement may be as in Fig. 5, operation being started by closing the switch 35 and the interrupter, which is of the kind described in Specification 619,660, causing a contact 9 to reciprocate between contacts 7 and 8. When the switch 35 is opened, the circuit to the magnet 24 is broken and a spring 16 returns it to its original position.
