Abstract
536,524. Electromagnet switches. BIRKA REGULATOR C. APPELBERG. Aug. 12, 1939. No. 23326. Convention date, Aug. 16, 1938. [Class 38 (v)] In an electromagnetic switch with armature and contacts contained in an evacuated or gas-filled receptacle, transmitting mechanism giving mechanical advantage is arranged between the armature and contacts so that the force necessary to operate the switch is small. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a coil 36 outside the receptacle 15 attracts an armature 35 linked to a spring-biassed lever 25 pivoted at 26 and bearing on the contact arm 21 pivoted at 22. In modification, cams or eccentrics form part of the mechanism, the armature may rotate about a central axis, there may be two pivoted armatures, or a rectilinearlymoving armature may move a rocking contact member alternately into its two positions.
