Abstract

565,614. Electromagnetic switches. PARTRIDGE, WILSON, & CO., Ltd., and LOACH, F. A. June 3, 1943, No. 8921. [Class 38 (v)] An electromagnetic contactor has auxiliary contacts 1, 3 which short-circuit an economy resistance 13 and are held closed by an auxiliary electromagnet 2 during the greater part of the stroke of the main armature (not shown) and its contact-carrying shaft 7 when the main electromagnet 14 is energised. In the form shown, the contacts 1, 3 are of magnetic material and remain in engagement while the shaft 7 rotates clockwise till an arm 6 engages a screw 12 and forces the contacts apart. A tension spring 10 then acts to separate them further. During the return movement of the main armature and shaft 7, contact between 1 and 3 will not be made till near the end of the movement.
