Abstract

566,075. Electromagnetic switches. PARTRIDGE, WILSON, & CO., Ltd., and LOACH, F. A. June 3, 1943, No. 8920. [Class 38 (v)] In an automatic contactor of the changeover or on-off type, an auxiliary or pilot armature 13 is arranged within the main armature 1 and is adapted to be first attracted to the core 2, thereby shortening or closing the magnetic air gap a so that the main armature is immediately and fully moved by the power of the magnet. The pilot armature 13 is normally held back by a spring 15 fixed to an adjustable screw 16 and in a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the screw is automatically moved so as to increase the tension of the spring when the main armature 1 moves to its attracted position. The increased spring tension then draws back the pilot armature.
