Abstract

1321830 Bi-stable electromagnetic switches JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 30 Oct 1970 [3 Dec 1969] 58946/69 Heading H1N A bi-stable switch has a pivoted operating lever 17 held in extreme positions by a widening, spring biased, ball 21 co-operating with angled faces 18, 19 of the lever which operates respective contact sets (shown in part at 13, 14) in each position. The electromagnet has its armature 24a arranged to drive an insulating plunger 22 having a projection 27 co-operating with cam faces 31 or 32 of the lever 17. As the plunger is moved axially the projection 27 slides on the engaged cam face 31 or 32 to the end thereof and rotates the plunger 22, but further movement of the plunger rocks the lever to its other stable position. On de-energization of the electromagnet coil 24 a spring 25 restores the plunger and armature and a round projection 28 of the plunger 22 engages a cam surface (33) of the casing 11 to rotate the plunger to its original position. Plunger end 29 is arranged to operate a further contact set (34).
