Abstract
541,983. Electromagnets. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 22, 1940, No. 13348. Convention date, Aug. 25, 1939. [Class 35] [Also in Group XXXVII] The core of an electromagnet is made in two parts between which is a strip of non-magnetic material secured to one part and turned up at its end to retain the other part and the coil thereon in position. Fig. 3 shows the different portions of a relay comprising such a magnet. One part 13 of the core is attached to the other non-laminated part 15 by screw 16 and nut 17. Between the two portions is a strip 18 of bronze riveted at 19 to the part 15 and having a forked turned-up end 20 engaging the end 13a of the core 13 and holding the coil 14 in position. The armature 21 is formed as a plate with notches 25 to engage projections 27 on the part 15 of the arm to form a pivot, and an opening 22 through which passes a projection 23 on the part 15. To the back of the armature are screwed a weight 28 and contact-arm 31. A projection 29 on the weight passes through an opening 30 in the projection 23 is attached to a restoring spring.
