Abstract
604,533. Automatic circuit-breakers. SOUTH WALES SWITCHGEAR, Ltd., and FARRER, S. Nov. 26, 1945, No. 31845. [Class 38 (v)] In an electromagnetic operating-mechanism specially adapted for resetting an automatic circuit-breaker, the plunger 7 is retarded at the extreme end of its upward stroke by striking the polepiece 10 and displacing this together with a magnetic member 11 about # of an inch, this movement being resisted by the magnetic attraction between the member 11 and the casing top 3 and also by the springs 13. In its upward movement a rod 8, carried by the plunger 7, carries with it a block 30 movable along guides 15 into the position shown, in so doing rotating a lever 17 counter-clockwise about a fixed pivot 18 and actuating the plunger 27 of the circuit-breaker to the right. The parts 30, 17, 27 remain in the position shown when the plunger 7 returns and the circuitbreaker is later tripped by removing a device (not shown) which has prevented the arm 24 moving counter-clockwise. The arm 24 now moves slightly breaking the toggle 24, 20 and removing the pressure on the arm 17 which has retained the link 16 in the position shown. The link 16 now drops and the lever 17 rotates clockwise.
