Abstract
618,022. Seats; beds. LORENZ, A. Oct. 15, 1946, No. 30633. Convention date, Oct. 26, 1945. [Class 52 (ii)] A chair wherein the seat, a lower extension of the back rest and a link chair composed of a number of connecting links arranged below the seat form movably connected members of a polygonal link system swingably mounted on a fixed support and wherein the movements of the members of the link system are controlled by a guiding link, is provided with a control link whereby the leg rest, pivoted to the seat, is controlled in its movements the con. trol link being pivoted to the leg rest and to the guiding link. As shown in Fig. 1 the link system comprises an extension 38 of the back rest 34, link 40, link 44 and the seat 32 the guiding link 52 being pivoted to the support at 54 and to the links 40, 44 at their pivotal point 46. The leg rest 56 pivoted to the seat 32 at 58 is controlled during the movements of the link system, by a control link 60 pivoted to the guiding link 52 and to the leg rest.56. The extreme positions of the seat and back rest are determined by an abutment on the front of the support 20 and an abutment 70 at the back of the support 20. In modifications the link system may be duplicated at both sides or may be disposed centrally of the support and the guiding link 52 may be connected to another point of a connecting link and to any appropriate point on the support either below or above the seat. Fig. 6 shows an arm chair in which the effective lengths of the connecting links may be adjusted and also the extension 338 of the back rest 334 disconnected to allow the latter to assume a horizontal position 334<111> and also the leg rest 356 to be brought into a position of alignment 356<111> with the control link 365 detached from the guiding link and pivoted as a stay to the support at 365<111> to convert the arm chair into a bed. The link system may be locked in adjusted position by means of a pivoted rod 74 which may be gripped in a clamp operated by a screw and knob or by any other suitable locking means.
