An adjustable reclining chair &c. comprises a back rest 816 and a seat 836 pivoted at each side, to a support 810 at spaced points 818, 838, respectively, a lower link 824 pivoted to a downward extension 822 of the back rest and to the front link 840 at 808, the other end of the front link 840 being pivoted at 842 to the seat 836 and a connecting or guiding link 830 pivoted to the support 810 at 834 and to an extension of the lower link at 828. The chair &c. may be adjusted angularly by means of a friction clamp and spindle arrangement. 854 while the limits of movement of the seat and back rest are determined by stops 806, 807. In a modification shown in Fig. 2 the connecting link 953 is pivoted to the front link ,924 at 926 and to a link 950 at 954, the link 950 determining the movements of a foot or leg rest 946 which is pivoted to the end of the seat 918 at 948. In another modification the connecting link is pivoted to a downward extension of the front link beyond its pivoted connection with the lower link.
