Abstract
The outer periphery of a turbine or compressor rotor is of material of a high creep strength and the central portion is of a different material of high proof stress. For the outer periphery, a suitable alloy contains: chromium 10-20 per cent (15); nickel 15-20 per cent (18); titanium 0-3 per cent (0.7); molybdenum 0-5 per cent (4); copper 0-5 per cent (4); cobalt 0-20 per cent (8); carbon 0-5 per cent (0.2); the remainder being iron. For the centre, a suitable alloy contains: chromium 0-14 per cent (2.8); molybdenum 0-1.5 per cent (0.4); vanadium 0-1.5 per cent (0.8); tungsten 0-1.5 per cent (0.4); silicon 0-8 per cent (0.4); carbon 0-0.6 per cent (0.2); the remainder being iron. The figures in brackets indicate the per centage composition of preferred alloys in the above ranges. The two alloys may be such that their respective properties are induced by heat treatment of the composite rotor. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 608,476.
