Abstract
Nickel-chromium steels have the following composition:-C 0.08-1.0 per cent; Si 0.1-2.0 per cent; Mn 0.1-5.0 per cent; Ni 5.0-30.0 per cent; Cr 5.0-30.0 per cent; W 0.05-10.0 per cent; Mo 0-15.0 per cent; Ti above 1.5-15.0 per cent; Co above 6.0-30.0 per cent; N 0-0.3 per cent; Fe above 30 per cent and constituting, with unavoidable impurities, the balance. The alloys may contain Al 0.03-30.0 per cent and/or Cu 0.05-15.0 per cent. Ti is preferably introduced into the alloy in a vacuum furnace or in a condition in which a substantially neutral, i.e. non-oxidizing atmosphere, is employed. The alloy may be used for machine parts or other articles to be subjected to high temperature particularly valves of high duty internal combustion engines and rotors or vanes or blades for gas turbines and the like. Specification 647,701 is referred to.
