[Classes 96 and 140] A covering material for walls, furniture and the like is made by placing absorbent fibrous material such as cellulose wadding or cotton wool on a backing such as paper, parchment paper, linen, plywood or glass, saturating the fibrous layer, e.g. by spraying with rubber latex containing a glue and waterglass, embossing the fibrous layer and drying. The fibrous layer may be in the form of a sheet, or flocks, pieces, or cuttings may be used. The backing may be coated with a latex adhesive before applying the fibrous layer. Dyes or colours may be added to the saturant or applied subsequently to the surface. The glue in the saturant may be ammonium caseinate. The adhesive resembles the saturant, but contains also gum tragacanth and gluten. Specifications 7749/08, [Class 20], and 506,868 are referred to.
