A wiper or cleansing cloth for delicate surfaces is made by spraying on to a soft fabric a mixture of mineral oil, a latex of rubber, synthetic rubber or synthetic resin until the surface is uniformly wet, spreading on to the wet surface a fine powder of white factice and drying. Preferably the base fabric is a terry cloth. Methyl alcohol and starch may also be included in the latex mixture. The steps of spraying and powdering may be repeated several times. Both sides of the fabric may be treated separately and successively.
