Abstract

1431775 Coated sheet materials BARLOWS COATED FABRICS LTD 26 July 1973 [5 Aug 1972] 36644/72 Heading B2E An artificial wash leather is obtained by raising the surface fibres of a textile fabric to render the surface moisture-absorbent, applying an acrylonitrile-butadiene synthetic plastics material to the absorbent surface of the fabric as a plastisol undergoing expansion or foaming, and spreading the plastisol as a coating on the absorbent surface, before setting or curing thereof, by means of a doctor blade so as to open at least some of the cells arising from the expansion or foaming and form pores through the coating from the outer surface of the coating to the absorbent surface of the fabric. The fabric may be a web of condenser cloth, i.e. a woven cotton fabric which has been raised on both sides to bring the fibres into a structure resembling blotting paper, or a knitted cotton interlock fabric.
