1,043,893. Laminates and laminating. ETABLISSEMENTS D. DUCARIN. May 30, 1963 [May 30, 1962], No. 21731/63. Heading B5N. A flexible reinforced web is made by winding a weft thread about two spaced-apart selvedge threads to form a weft layer, applying to one or both faces of this a row of spaced-apart warp threads, impregnating the assembly with adhesive in a manner such that no adhesive film is formed over the mesh interstices, then applying to one or both faces of the mesh a web of sheet material to be reinforced. Preferably the reinforcing web is made of dimensionally-stable polynosic or synthetic fibres. The outer webs may be of plastic or paper but in the embodiment are of wadding. The completed laminate may be further impregnated or treated to provide a variety of finishes or properties. Jets of air may be directed through the impregnated mesh to assist in breaking up film formation, but the adhesive should be of such viscosity that it does not readily form a film, examples being acrylic and vinyl resins or a synthetic latex. Setting of the adhesive may be obtained by passing the mesh over a heated drum after applying the webs and pressing by rollers. The product may be perforated, and several may be superimposed. A variety of disposable articles of clothing or household fabrics may be produced.
