Abstract

845,744. Fabrics composed of adhesivelyunited threads ; waterproofing; laminates. AMBRUS, T. Oct. 31, 1956 [Nov. 1, 1955; April 26, 1956], Nos. 31255/55 and 12880/56. Drawings to Specification. Class 140. Fabric, for use as reinforcement in mouldings consists of a carrier layer of thin widely-spaced parallel threads coated or impregnated with adhesive, e.g. a polyester, and a reinforcement layer of closely-laid thicker yarns or rovings extending transversely across the threads of the carrier layer and attached thereto by the adhesive on the carrier layer, but free of adhesive except at the crossing-points of the threads. A single layer of carrier threads may be attached to a single layer of reinforcement yarns or rovings, or may be between two such layers. The reinforcement layer may consist of strands or yarns of glass filaments, asbestos, or a high-melting-point polymer such as a superpolyamide. The carrier layer may consist of threads of cotton or other cellulosic material, filaments of a higher melting-point polymer such as a superpolyamide, or a polyester, or thin glass or asbestos strands or yarns. The fabric may be made by bringing the two layers together and subjecting to gentle pressure until bonded, the reinforcing system being preheated if a thermoplastic adhesive is used. The carrier layer may be calendered before bonding to the reinforcement layer.
