Abstract

1,253,651. Laminated electric blanket. LANTOR Ltd. 8 Nov., 1968 [8 Aug., 1967], No. 36245/67. Heading B5N. An electric blanket includes a heating element disposed between two fabric layers which are welded together, at least one layer comprising a web of fibres bonded to one face of a reinforcing fabric whose other face is coated with weldable thermoplastic material. The reinforcement may comprise scrim, woven, knitted or stitchbonded non-woven fabric and may be needlepunched or chemically bonded to the fibrous web (which may comprise natural or synthetic fibres). The reinforcement fibres may or may not be fusible and may be treated with thermoplastic material by applying a solution or dispersion thereof in discrete areas, or by applying particles. The second fabric layer may be woven, knitted or non-woven, or may be a web of fibres bonded to a fusible reinforcement. Lamination may be by high-frequency welding effected in lines. The weldable material may be polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, nylon or copolymers of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate or vinylidene chloride. In examples, a viscose rayon web backed with a polyvinyl chloride-treated scrim is welded to (i) another layer of the same material, and (ii) to a woven cotton fabric.
