Abstract

A garment is made at least in part from a non-rigid composite fabric composed of two contiguous and substantially co-extensive layers of fabric of which the inner layer is a relatively smooth knitted fabric expansible in all directions and the outer layer is a substantially less expansible fabric, said layers being bonded together by an adhesive in numerous discrete areas. The outer layer may be woven, knitted (including lace) or felted and may be made of natural, artificial or synthetic fibres e.g. wool, cotton, linen, regenerated cellulose, cellulose acetate, polyamide, polyester or acrylonitrile polymer continuous filament or staple fibre yarns. The expansible layer is preferably a silk or acetate triool though it may be made of the fibres listed above. The adhesive, preferably a thermosetting resin, may be applied in lines or as spots. The fabrics may be cut and pleated by conventional means.
