Abstract

543,348. Coated boards. SUTHERLAND, D. G. Jan. 20, 1941, No. 749. [Class 96] Hard boards, for building or insulating purposes, prepared from vegetable or mineral fibres and a filler such as china clay, are coated on one or both sides with powdered or fibrous wood while still wet during manufacture. The boards, prepared on a cylinder, Fourdrinier or mould type of machine are coated before the final drying under pressure and heat. Adhesion may be assisted by an adhesive or the ground wood may be first wetted with a cellulose, synthetic resin, oil or other varnish or with a sizing or waterproofing solution. Sizing may be effected after application of the wood. The ground wood may be mixed with colours or loading materials.
