Abstract

732,980. Pile fabrics. GODDARD & SONS, Ltd., J. June 12, 1951 [June 14, 1950], No. 14824/50. Class 142(4). Pile-surfaced or tufted sheet material is made by passing strands 2 downwardly through apertures in a two-part jig 3, 4, applying a layer of synthetic resin to the ends of the strands extending through the jig to form a backing layer, causing the layer to set and thereafter severing the strands between the layer and the jig. The two parts 3, 4 of the jig are relatively movable so as to trap the strands. The synthetic resin may be polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride. A number of small sheets so formed may be joined together edge to edge, the synthetic resin being partly set before such joining and thereafter completely set.
