Abstract

596,364. Flexible abrasive sheet materials. STEVENS, A. H. (Armour & Co.). March 3, 1944, No. 4014. [Class 60] Flexible abrasive material comprises a pile fabric 10 having an irregular covering of hardened abrasive coating completely covering the base fabric 10 and clusters of the pile filaments 11 rising therefrom. The pile fabric may be a velour, velvet, chenille, carpet or other form of tufted or napped fabric made from vegetable, animal or synthetic fibres. An adhesive coating 12 may be applied first, followed by abrasive particles 13, or a mixture of an adhesive and abrasive particles may be applied, The abrasive may be aluminium oxide, garnet or silicon carbide. After drying, the coating may be broken or cracked into segments by running the fabric over a breaker bar.
