Abstract

698,684. Coated fabrics; compound sheet materials; reinforced paper. ATLANTIC GUMMED PAPER CORPORATION. Oct. 16, 1950. [Oct. 22, 1949] No. 25186/50. Classes 96 and 140. A tape 10 of fibrous material such as paper is reinforced by threads or wires 12 cemented in grooves 11 extending transversely of the tape, there being one or more threads in each groove. The grooves may be formed by grinding, embossing, or scoring, by sticking on transverse strips of paper appropriately spaced, or may be formed during the paper-making process. A further strip of paper may be adhesively secured to the grooved side of the reinforced strip. The threads may consist of cotton, sisal rayon, nylon, or glass. The reinforced tape may be coated on either side with a tacky or moistenable adhesive such as gum or glue 13.
