An adhesive tape comprises a backing strip 1, e.g. of paper, coated with moisture- or pressuresensitive adhesive, and having a reinforcing thread 4 wrapped around it in an open helix and adhered to the adhesive-coated surface. Longitudinal reinforcing threads 3 may be provided beneath the thread 4 along each rear edge of the strip 1, and additional, adhesive coated, longitudinal threads 5 may be secured by the adhesive to the back of the strip and over the thread 4. The back of the strip may further be covered by a strip of paper or synthetic plastic foil, or by a number of parallel, narrower, strips.
