Abstract
615,095. Beet harvesters. SILK, O. A. Aug. 26, 1946, No. 25396. [Class 6 (iii)] [Also in Group XXX] A root-crop harvester comprises, in combination, a wheeled carriage, a counterbalanced member pivotally mounted on the carriage and a pair of mutually inclined rotary cutter discs suspended from the said member. In the construction shown, the cutter discs j are mounted on stub-shafts k detachably journalled in the sides of the frame f which is adjustably connected to a longitudinal bar c by a link g and hook h at its apex, and by cables i intermediate its ends. The bar c is connected at both ends to the carriage, at the front by a pivotal means, and at the rear by a counterbalancing spring e. Guides m deposit the cut tops to one side of the untreated crops from whence they are fed to a conveyer n by a device p comprising fingers q actuated by a crank mechanism from a rotary disc u driven from the larger, b<SP>1</SP>, of the two ground wheels by suitable gearing. The conveyer n is also driven from the same system. In the Provisional Specification, the counterbalancing means comprises chain and pulley and a counterweight.
