Abstract

616,196. Root-crop harvesters. MINNS MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd MINNS, F. J., COURT, S. A. F., and LANGDALE, N. E. Aug. 29, 1946, No. 25938. [Class 6 (iii)] [Also in Group XXX] A machine for topping root crops of the kind having a topping unit with circular saws and which floats with respect to the chassis, and wherein the saws are used in conjunction with locating means mounted on the floating topping unit and in front of the saws, and which may be adjusted relatively to the saws, has the locating means formed of two pairs of small wheels arranged one in front of and higher than the other pair. In the Figure, the locating device comprises a pair of discs h followed by a second pair k driven by a chain m. The circular saws d are mounted on spring-loaded spindles e on which' they may be vertically adjusted. All moving parts of the topping unit are driven from a shaft n by chains and sprockets and scissor-type links o and p which allow for variation in height of the parts of the unit without interruption of their drive. The severed tops are gathered by a conveyer which comprises a pair of spring-loaded opposed rubber bands which delivers them to a transverse conveyer A, driven from the shaft n.
