664,886. Harvesting root-crops. HAERTJENS, D. Sept. 16, 1949 [Sept. 17, 1948: March 17, 1949]. Nos. 23923/49 and 23924/49. Class 6(iii) A root-crop harvester includes an elevator comprising endless chains 19 fitted with pins 20 and arranged in sidechains being separated at the ends of their travel by spaced discs 21 or 35 which retain the crop but permit stones and weeds to pass between them. The discs are mounted on axles 22, 23 and are interconnected by pins 24 to form skeleton pulleys. The upper discs 21 are large enough to enclose completely the pins 20 but the latter protrude beyond the lower discs 35 in order to receive the crop dug by the share 12. A further endless conveyer 37, which may be tined, carries the crop to a shoot 17 discharging into sacks 16. The forward part of the machine carries a topping knife 11 and is supported on a wheeled fore-carriage 6 adjustable by a screw 8. Spring blades 15 clean the crop during its passage up the elevator 37.
