[Class 20(ii)] The upright and horizontal members a, b and the oblique bracing members h of a builder's scaffold are each constructed of overlapping short lengths c of timber assembled side by side and end to end and bolted together. The members are fastened together by flat metal strips f bolted across their intersections, or by bolts passing through the uprights and bent round the horizontals, or by straight bolts through both. Boards j along one or both edges of a platform k are fastened to the uprights by metal strip or wire fastenings m. Two spaced rows of uprights may be set up at the rear of the scaffolding between which the wall can be erected, and to these uprights horizontal members n are adjustably secured by metal strips p with bolts q passing through them, the ends of whichare bent to engage grooves in the members n. The width of each member n is such that between them they form a channel in which a course of bricks can be laid, and the depth of each is that of an ordinary brick, and they, therefore, form a brick-laying guide, the use of which may be facilitated by location strips placed through slots in the members n. Alternatively, a single straight edge may be secured to a single set of uprights.
