Abstract

591,155. Walls ; building slabs. DANDRIDGE, G. F. J. March 23, 1945, No. 7368. [Classes 20 (iv) and 87 (i)] Inner and outer wall elements 14 are fitted to spaced uprights such as steel tubes 10 set in a foundation, and secured together by ties engaging in recesses 20 formed in ribs 17 running along the top and bottom edges of the inner face of each element. Notches 18 in the ribs to accommodate the uprights are of a size to provide a gap of about an inch between the ribs of the inner and outer elements. Larger central and end notches 24, 25 provide vertical passages for air circulation, or for service pipes &c. leading to metal panels substituted for a standard element 14. To prevent draughts the edges of the exposed face of an element may be rabbeted to form an offset panel 28 the edges of which may have fillets and grooves 29, 30, and vertical grooves 31 in the end notches may provide dovetail connections for door-jambs 32 &c. or quoin elements. Lintels having holes for the uprights and notches to receive the ties may similarly engage the ends of wall elements. Floor course elements may have cavities to receive joists of floor sections ; upper storey joists and roof frames may be bolted to brackets welded to the uprights, adjacent elements being slotted to accommodate the brackets.
