Abstract
515,819. Concrete structures; casting in situ; scaffolding. SCOTT, G. M. July 4, 1938, No. 19702. [Classes 20 (i), 20 (ii) and 20 (iv)] A reinforced-concrete wall, pillar, roof, bridgesupport or. span, or other structure, is provided with a number of main steel or other metal tubes 1 extending the full height or length of the structure and perforated to permit the concrete to enter the tubes, and a multiplicity of transverse steel or other matal tubes 3 'which pass through the main tubes 1 so as to extend across substantially the full thickness of the structure; the concrete within the main tubes is insufficient completely to exclude air from such tubes and is such as to provide interstices acting as air spaces within the tubes. The tubes 3 pass through holes in the tubes 1 and are adapted to receive bolts 6 which support shuttering 4, 5 by means of nuts 7; if desired, the bolts 6 and nuts 7 may co-operate with bars 8 disposed on the outside of the shuttering. The tubes may be assembled in each of the two sections of a hollow wall, in which case, as shown in Fig. 2, spacer tubes 10 are held by wedges 11 between the inner shutters 4. The tubes 1, 3 shown in Fig. 4 are supported by vertical scaffold tubes 19 which are coupled together by sleeves 18; the bolts 6 pass through the tubes 3, transverse scaffold tubes, 17 and the sleeves 18. Scaffold boards 13 may be supported on the tubes 17. The perforations in the tubes 1 are sufficiently large to permit the concrete to enter the tubes without completely choking them. The tubes 3 may be provided with holes 16, at least one of which in each tube opens into the tube 1. The ends of the tubes 3 which appear in the wall faces are plugged with a suitable composition.
