Abstract

602,141. Bearings for metal joists. WRIGHT. G. C., and UNITON. Ltd. Nov. 12, 1945; No. 30246. [Classes 20(ii) and 20(iv)] A metal joist comprising at least two spaced upper boom bars 11, a lower boom bar 16, and two zigzag web members 18 resistance welded to the boom bars, is provided with an end bearing member 20, constituted by or including a flat plate disposed between and parallel to the horizontal planes containing the boom bars and spanning between and welded to the last two legs 22, 23 of the web members. In the form shown the flat plate is also welded to the end point 21 of each web and may be accommodated in a brick joint. Alternatively, the bearing member may be of outwardly flanged channel section when it is also welded to the bars 11. These bars are braced by a zigzag rod 12 welded thereto, the last leg of the rod 12 being perpendicular to the bar, and a wood railing strip 30 may be secured to this rod by staples.
